TIMTRA POULTRY FARM PIONEERS CIRCULAR AGRIBUSINESS MODEL TO TRANSFORM UGANDAN POULTRY VALUE CHAIN
LUWERO, UGANDA — OCTOBER 2026 — TIMTRA Poultry Farm Limited, a rising force in East African sustainable agriculture, today unveiled its comprehensive circular agribusiness model. The framework is specifically engineered to dismantle the structural bottlenecks crippling regional poultry producers—chiefly skyrocketing commercial feed costs, erratic access to high-quality inputs, and highly fragmented market linkages for smallholder outgrowers.
Under the leadership of visionary founder and CEO Stephen Ifulaimu Hiire, TIMTRA operates a highly integrated, climate-smart poultry ecosystem. The business model fuses commercial bird production, localized feed milling, community farmer incubation, and pioneering bio-processing into a single, closed-loop network.
At the structural core of TIMTRA’s cost-mitigation blueprint is the conversion of urban and agricultural organic waste into highly nutritious, protein-rich animal feed components. This is achieved via advanced Black Soldier Fly Larvae (BSFL) bio-conversion technology. By cultivating insect-derived proteins and nutrient-dense organic frass fertilizer, TIMTRA creates an eco-friendly, low-cost alternative to volatile conventional soy and fishmeal dependencies.
Operationally, the model functions on a hub-and-spoke system. The centralized operational anchor is TIMTRA’s 1,000-bird poultry hub situated in Kakoni, Busiika within the Luwero District. This nerve center orchestrates brooding, processing, animal-husbandry training, input-credit financing, and cold-chain distribution. Branching outward from this hub is an active network of 53 vetted smallholder outgrower farmers. These independent producers receive technical training, vital input credits, and guaranteed market access through TIMTRA’s aggregate buy-back mechanism.
To date, TIMTRA’s inclusive architecture has generated over 85 verified direct and indirect rural livelihoods across its local supply chain. The enterprise’s foundational scaling was accelerated by the prestigious Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), which provided critical early-stage entrepreneurship training alongside an initial US$5,000 catalytic seed grant. Moving into its 2026–2029 strategic expansion phase, TIMTRA is positioned to scale its circular waste-to-feed manufacturing and dramatically broaden its rural farmer footprint.
“We are building something far more impactful than a standard commercial poultry farm. We are pioneering a resilient, highly localized circular rural enterprise. By proving that organic waste can be reclaimed as a premium agricultural resource, we are simultaneously driving down production overheads, de-risking smallholder farming, and unlocking reliable food security and economic prosperity for our communities.”
